چکیده

Innovations in water-saving cultivation strategies are urgently needed to achieve high yield and elevated water use efficiency (WUE) simultaneously arid regions with limited resources. Here, we conducted a two-year field study compare the impacts of eight combinations planting patterns (PPs) mulching on soil content (SWC) top 60 cm layer, growth, yield, WUE wheat under two irrigation rates (1.00 0.50 ET). These included three conventional flat (CF) patterns, including CF without mulch (CFNM), plastic film (CFPM), straw (CFSM); raised-bed (RB) RB (RBNM), (RBPM), (RBSM) mulch; ridge–furrow (RF) RF (RFNM) (RFPM). The results showed that tested treatments affected SWC at different depths both rates. Compared non-mulched ET, PPs were significantly higher before by 14.4–22.0% 6.9–17.2% 0–20 depth, 16.4–29.0% 6.6–14.9% 20–40 3.3–34.8% 3.4–14.5% 40–60 respectively. All measured parameters, except harvest index, interaction between rate PPs. highest values for plant dry weight (PDW), components, grain (GY), 1.00 ET obtained mulch, while these parameters ET. response factor (Ky) based PDW was acceptable all mulched as well RFNM, Ky GY only less than 1 exhibited quadratic nonsignificant relationships linear strong few exceptions. Overall, conclude combining any could be used feasible effective strategy obtaining irrigated agroecosystem.

Spring maize yield, soil water use and water use efficiency under plastic film and straw mulches in the Loess Plateau

To compare the soil water balance, yield and water use efficiency (WUE) of spring maize under different mulching types in the Loess Plateau, a 7-year field experiment was conducted in the Changwu region of the Loess Plateau. Three treatments were used in this experiment: straw mulch (SM), plastic film mulch (PM) and conventional covering without mulch (CK). Results show that the soil water chan...

Responses of Winter Wheat Yield and Water Use Efficiency to Irrigation Frequency and Planting Pattern

A suitable planting pattern and irrigation strategy are essential for optimizing winter wheat yield and water use efficiency (WUE). The study aimed to evaluate the impact of planting pattern and irrigation frequency on grain yield and WUE of winter wheat. During the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 winter wheat growing seasons in the North China Plain, the effects of planting patterns and irrigation fre...

Soil salinity and matric potential interaction on water use, water use efficiency and yield response factor of bean and wheat

We studied the effects of soil matric potential and salinity on the water use (WU), water use efficiency (WUE) and yield response factor (Ky), for wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Mahdavi) and bean (Phaseoulus vulgaris cv. COS16) in sandy loam and clay loam soils under greenhouse conditions. Results showed that aeration porosity is the predominant factor controlling WU, WUE, Ky and shoot biomass (B...

Impacts of Drought Stress and Planting Methods on Sweet Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency

Abstract Seasonal drought is the most important factor to limit the production of maize in the world. Using a split plot design, a two year field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of limited irrigation regime on yield, yield components and water use efficiency of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). Responses of three sweet corn varieties KSC403, Merit and Obsession to three di...
